As we age we are not able to create as much hyaluronic acid or collagen as our body needs. The gradual reduction in both as well as changes in fat and bone within the complex of our faces results in changes to facial volume, decreases in hydration and elasticity as well as an increase in skin laxity. Lines and wrinkles and hollows appear as the volume is lost and jowls and superficial fat deposits change and develop when the underlying structure can no longer support the upper layer. This is otherwise known as ageing.
At Thames Skin Clinic we offer bespoke combination treatments tailored to your individual anatomical changes.
Facial Contouring involves assessment of the way your skin and underlying structure has changed over time. Using our knowledge of anatomy and understanding of the ageing to carefully plan your treatment. We look at your face as a whole, gently placing where fat has been lost to lift and reshape your facial contours.
Treatment gives balance and puts youthful curves back where they should be. Starting in the temples and midface before strengthening the lower face, jaw and perioral area around the mouth. Lip treatment is available for those who would like a natural smoothness without prominence.
Additional treatments to tighten skin, rehydrate and improve skin laxity are suitable for some .
Hyaluronic Acid and collagen stimulating treatment with dermal filler is suitable for most people. We discuss your medical history at your new patient consultation and would ask you to postpone treatment if you were pregnant or breastfeeding. may not suitable if you are having immune therapy or undergoing cancer treatment.
All our dermal fillers treatments are performed by Dr Hemming who is extremely experienced in aesthetic .
You should expect some minor discomfort or tenderness initially, this settles very quickly. We use local anaesthetic injections to help numb some treatment areas and cool compress to calm any potential swelling.
Side are minimal if any. Injection site tenderness and mild as well as redness, dry skin and itching to the treatment area may occur. If your peroral and Lips are treated this area can swell a little more after treatment and will settle within 7-14 days. Dermal fillers should not be used if pregnant or breast as we have no research to prove it is safe for your foetus or child. More serious complications can occur which is why all of our dermal filler treatments are performed by a medically qualified practitioner who is trained in complication management.
After dermal filler facial contouring treatment there can be some redness and swelling and possibly some bruising. This is normal after treatment and can last a few days to 2 weeks.
Fillers are made from a clear non animal based hyaluronic acid gel injected under the skin to bind water and encourage collaged regrowth. These have low allergy rates and means your treatment can go ahead without a patch test on your first visit.
Dermal filler and botulinum toxin are both through a fine sterile needle or cannula into the area where volume loss has occurred.
Treatment can cause mild discomfort over a few seconds. I prefer fillers to contain a local anaesthetic as it ensures a more comfortable procedure.Effects of dermal filler can be seen immediately and the complete effect of both filler and botox in 2 weeks.
Dermal filler lasts for months.
Skin stimulation with or continue to build collagen for 2-3 months following the procedure providing fantastic and growing results following your treatment.
Your comfort levels and expectations are important factors which are considered in your consultation. Local anaesthetic cream can be applied before treatment. Please arrive 30 minutes before your appointment to have local anaesthetic applied, after which you may relax and enjoy our private patient lounge facilities.

Ask your doctor to advise a pre and post skin care regime to rejuvenate the skin and maintain maximum effects.
If you suffer from cold sores these may be activated by treatment and your doctor may prescribe you some antiviral cream or tablets.
AVOID skin peels, sunbeds and laser treatments for up to 2 weeks.
