In Throne And Liberty , combat strategy and the weapons you equip play a major role in your overall success. While there aren’t exactly classes in this MMORPG, there are weapons that almost act as classes coming with their own unique skills and enhancements.
This is a game that’s definitely best enjoyed with friends, and eventually as part of a guild. Late game activities revolve around guild-to-guild combat and PvE co-operative dungeons. You can tackle these as a solo player – while leveling, progression, and so on can all be achieved solo – but you’ll miss out on a lot of what Throne and Liberty has to offer. Creating my own skill rotation as I levelled to try to optimize how I wanted to play, made me feel like my choices mattered. Other mechanics such as using the “Q” bound defense skills to dodge or block mechanics felt satisfying when landing a _perfect block . _ Between the effortless flow of skill use, the skill upgrade, mastery, and specialization systems, I can confidently say that I love the combat in Throne and Liberty Strategy and Liberty .
The story from the beginning had me wondering “who am I supposed to be here?”, “what happened to that person?” and many thoughts of “ok this person seems to be up to something sinister”. These thoughts alone are much more than I’ve ever really cared about stories in past MMOs, so I’ll give NCSoft that. The voice over and many cinematics were a great touch to help keep me intrigued and interested in what was happening, rather than reading long quest logs and subtitles.
At the end of the day, Throne and Liberty ** is a pretty new game** . It has its flaws, sure, but there’s still plenty of time for it to resolve its issues with progression with more mechanically complex classes, to add new morphs that actually make a difference in gameplay, or to renew its focus on the thrilling
The scale of the world itself is very impressive. It felt like I barely made a dent on the available regions, but the free and instantaneous fast travel helps you get from place to place with ease.
